FailedMessiah.com: Brooklyn D.A. Allegedly Lets Case Against Accused Mafioso Languish Because of Family Relationship

Joseph Lanni is an accused Gambino family Mafioso who was indicted more than three years ago in a large gambling ring case. But he hasn’t been prosecuted even though his co-conspirators for the most part have been. Why? One reason might be that Joseph Lanni is the brother of Anthony Lanni, the husband of the sister of D.A. Charles J. Hynes’ director of legal hiring, A.D.A. Susan Quirk. Susan Quirk is the daughter of Hynes’ chief financial backer and campaign chief, Dennis Quirk – who heads the court officers union and runs lots of city parking lots, ice rinks and concession stands through what many call sweetheart contracts with the city. Is Brooklyn’s scandal-plagued District Attorney Charles J. Hynes all mobbed up?

Joseph Lanni is an accused Gambino family Mafioso who was indicted more than three years ago in a large gambling ring case.

But he hasn’t been prosecuted even though his co-conspirators for the most part apparently have been.

Why?

One reason might be that Joseph Lanni is the brother of Anthony Lanni, the husband of the sister of D.A. Charles J. Hynes’ director of legal hiring, A.D.A. Susan Quirk.

Susan Quirk is the daughter of Hynes’ chief financial backer and campaign chief, Dennis Quirk – who heads the New York State Court Officers Association and runs lots of city parking lots, ice rinks and concession stands through what many call sweetheart contracts with the city.

Is Brooklyn’s scandal-plagued District Attorney Charles J. Hynes all mobbed up?

Frum Follies reports:

…New York State’s eCourts WebCrims site lists over 550 felony indictments for [Joseph] Lanni: promoting gambling, criminal usury, grand larceny by extortion, enterprise corruption (PL460.20 1A B Felony & top charge), and conspiracy. In theory, if sentenced to the max, Joseph Lanni would not be out until a Super Bowl in the fourth millennium. In reality, Joseph Lanni has never spent a night in jail on this indictment though he did get sentenced to jail by the feds for thirty months for similar crimes on July 27, 2000 (USA v. Dinisio et al, Eastern District of Brooklyn, Case #: 1:99-cr-00859-NG-10).…

Two points must be made in fairness to Hynes:

1. Rarely, very complicated cases can take an extremely long time to bring to trial and prosecute. Three years is a very, very long time, though.

2. The other is that from some neighborhoods in New York City, it is not uncommon to find a one brother in a family working as a cop while another brother in that family is a criminal. (This is also common in other places, like Youngstown, Ohio, for example – try to find Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini’s discussion of his brother, an immensely talented boxer who ended up working as an enforcer for the Mob there.)

The problem in this case could be that Hynes office really is corrupt, but the problem that exists even if it isn’t is the very real appearance of impropriety and favoritism.

Because of the connection between Joseph Lanni and Dennis and Susan Quirk, Hynes should have turned this case over to a special prosecutor after the arrests were made.

He did not do so.

Arguably, he should do so now.
